Bhagam Bhag movie Review;
And we thought they’d round up the year with a hearty laugh. Sob! Priyadarshan fails to deliver the climactic comedy that would have sent us goof-balled and gung-ho into the New Year. And yes, it’s a bigger let-down because it comes from the king of comedy
, Priyadarshan, who fails to conjure his Hera-Pheri magic potion in this year-end bonanza that sees the return of another badshah of the ‘Big Ha’ to the Bollywood screen. Priyadarshan recreates his Hera-Pheri trio of three simpletons in search of the big thrills, but this time he brings in Govinda instead of Suneil Shetty. Does it work? Only for Govinda fans who still remember the hungama he created as the sub-altern hero in David Dhawan’s ribticklers. Till date, he remains one of the most perfect comic actors with an impeccable sense of timing and a gag bag of throwaway lines that leave the viewer lusting for more.
But even Govinda needs a script, some kinda storyline and a bunch of witticisms to throw away. And herein lies the problem with Bhagam Bhaag. There is nothing to keep the laughter flowing. Not even Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal who end up repeating their Hera-Pheri antics, minus the fun quotient. \
So you have Akshay rehashing the role of the streetsmart prankster and Paresh Rawal donning the garb of the avuncular godfather — here, he is a theatre director — while Govinda pitches in as the simpleton in this familiar trio. Add that brush with the bumbling underworld and the fumbling cops and you have the Priyam formula in place. The theatre group is thrown into a tizzy when its leading lady (Tanushree Dutta) deserts the company and is replaced with a local London hottie (Lara Dutta) who has a penchant for jumping in front of speeding cars. Do they manage to stage their show in Londonstan?
Maybe, but first they must find their bearings through the sundry chases in the streets of vilayat where almost everybody is out to get them.
The actors try hard, but the script and the dialogues let them down. Even the situations aren’t funny enough, except for a few. Case in point, watch Paresh trying to chew a grenade and Govinda asking for a bite too. Funny!
